As opposed to the Beetle of past times, the New Beetle features a 2.5L five-cylinder engine located at the front of the vehicle, along with other performance features like a five-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic clutch, and power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering. Additional features contribute to the excellent handling of this vehicle, such as Electronic Differential Lock, Engine Braking Assist (prevents compression-induced skidding in slippery conditions), and the Anti-lock Braking System.

The exterior style of the vehicle is unmistakable and it features standard equipment such as anti-intrusion side door beams, halogen headlamps with projector-lens, side blinkers integrated into the side mirrors, and heatable windshield wiper nozzles. The cabin fits a total of four passengers and they will be able to enjoy features like power windows with pinch protection, V-Tex seat trim, the Easy Entry System, an automatic locking feature, CFC-free air conditioning, and illuminated vanity mirrors.
